אודותינו

Our story begins in 2014 as young backyard homebrewers.

A long stay in Brussels - the beer capital of the world, altered the passion into a profession.

After acquiring the Beer Judge Certification (BJCP), winning homebrewing competitions and judging in others, studying science of beer & brewing at Wageningen (NL) and KU Leuven (BE) visiting many craft beer venues around the world and obtaining good connections with key people in the craft industry - Šikãru – Beer Connoisseurs was born.

Šikãru is the ancient Akkadian word for barley - the main ingredient of which beer is made.

For us, beer is much more than an alcoholic beverage. Beer is a bridge between people and between cultures.

It's common knowledge today that it was beer that stirred civilization to its modern form, rather than bread.

With Šikãru – Beer Connoisseurs, the knowledge and passion about the world’s oldest and most complex drink turn into unforgettable experiences.

What is the difference between industrial beer and craft beer?

Craft breweries are never owned by huge conglomerates nor produce watery tasteless brands using sugar adjuncts.

Craft beer is about respecting the environment, working with the local community and expressing the location of the brewery in the product.

Beer

and the Holy Land

Rakefet cave in the Israeli Carmel Mountains holds the earliest known beer brewing evidence in the world!

Later, however, climate and cultural factors led the region to be more associated with the wine world.

Moreover, draconian production and importation laws regarding alcoholic beverages, combined with relatively low demand for distinguished products, resulted with Israel being dominated by two industrial macro-breweries along with some international mega-brands.

This began to change lately with ever growing consumer’s interest in craft beer and more craft breweries opening to satisfy the (still limited) demand.

Today there are about 25 craft breweries in Israel producing over 100 different beers.

The homebrewing community that is known to push the sector’s boundaries further, now stands on two thousand members.
